Henry V. Adams
Principal, Morehouse high school
1949~1965
“The new design for living must aim at a sort of validity that will carry suspicious and skeptical youth along by its intrinsic reasonableness. Whether you have realized it or not, a school should develop the whole child physically, morally, mentally, religiously, and socially."
Henry V. Adams

Mr. Adams, who is the fifth child of six, was born at Grambling. Charles P. Adams Sr., his father, was the founder of Grambling college. As a versatile youth, Professor Adams received his elementary and secondary education at Grambling where he starred in sports.
Upon completion of high school, this week's personality went to Tuskegee institute, Tuskegee, Ala., where he received two B. S. Degrees (1935-in Agriculture and in 1946 in Physical Education. It was here that the soft-spoken and well-mannered Mr. Adams gained recognition as a football star. As a bruising tackler, he was named to the All-American teams in 1933 and 1934. In the latter year he was captain. After his collegiate training, he began his teaching career as principal-teacher at Richland Parish Training school in Delhi. He remained there for 11 years.
Later the hard-working principal was called to the Kentucky State College, Frankfort, Ky., where he headed the Animal Husbandry department and served as a football line coach. Because of his love for work with youth, Mr. Adams accepted his present position when he received the appointment.
"It is almost impossible for me to give the number of students I have taught in all my years," said the energetic leader who is now in his third year at the local school. Although he had a course in landscape architecture and loves to work with plants, his hobbies are driving an automobile, fishing, hunting, and tennis.
He has been married to Mrs. Velma Adams for 18 years. There are no children. Mr. H. V., as he is known to many, concludes, "There should be a four-way bridge between the school and community. Two leading from the school to the community and vice-versa. The traffic of understanding can never be too great." He is a member of Mt. Zion Baptist church in Grambling, and of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
